Week 10 Information

This module covers three of the most common extreme weather events: thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. The unit begins with thunderstorms covering the growth, development, and types of thunderstorms from chapter 14 of the textbook. Then it moves to chapter 15 to examine the formation and occurrence of tornadoes. It explains the tornado life cycle and the occurrence and distribution of tornadoes in US. Then the module moves to hurricane which begins with how a hurricane is different from other tropical storms. Air motion and characteristic features of hurricane are discussed. This chapter examines in detail on how energy from a warm surface layer of ocean water triggers the development of hurricane.

An introductory video of thunderstorm from National Geographic is posted right here in introduction section to entice you to the topic. This video also helps you learn on how different types of thunderstorms form, what causes thunder, lightning and tornado.
