Week_2 Discussion
Discussion Assignment
Your initial post should be your original. All of you are answering the same questions does not mean there cannot be various different perspectives to look on a map or a problem. Please identify a different feature on map or provide different examples on other questions. Check discussion_rubric to see what criteria and grading scale I am using to grade your discussion activity.
Remember your initial response to questions 1, 2, and 3 are due on Wednesday, September 4th by 11:59 PM, and feedback to minimum of one post is due on Saturday, September 7th.
Question 1. (9 points)
The following link provides Daily Weather Maps for United States. Choose a date Under "Select Date” on the left between August 31st and September 4th and describe at least six features observed on a surface weather map. The map on the very top is surface weather map. (Tip: carefully review Figure 1.17 and related text on the book).
Instructions:
i) If four of your classmates have already picked a date, don’t repeat it. Put your date on the top of your discussion response.
ii) When you describe a feature, first name it and then provide reference location/s of that feature on the map. You can use directional terms such as southeastern/mid-western part of the country or name of states over which the feature is located on the map.
iii) Try to provide your original answer.
Question 2. How does weather differ from Climate? Give examples for each. (6 points)
Question 3. Describe at least seven ways weather and climate influence lives of people. (10 points)
Feedback to minimum of one other post: (5 points)
Instructions for initial Post:
→ I suggest you draft your initial response on a word document so that you have opportunity to edit and finalize it before posting. When you write your initial answer, please follow the following rules:
- a. The answer with adequate explanation will be valued in grading.
- b. Use formal language to describe your map or answer questions.
- c. Include example/s when possible.
- d. Write thought-provoking post so that you can entice your classmates for feedback.
→ Once your draft is finalized. Hit “Add a new discussion topic” on this activity page. Type the question number and a brief question to tell which question you are answering on subject line. In the main body of the post, first copy the question (use a slightly larger font size and different font color to make the question distinct than your answer-text) to orient your peers. Then, copy-paste your answer from word document.
→ Finally, hit “post to forum”, which then will be viewable to your peers to provide you feedback.
Instructions for feedback
While providing feedback to your peer’s post, please keep in mind the following purposes and rules a proper feedback should serve:
- Make your feedback purposeful by expressing your opinions of agreement or disagreement, helping to explain it further, tying ideas, asking to elaborate, and sharing personal experiences
- Use a respectful and dialoging language. Provide the reasons to agree/disagree with personal experiences or research findings.
- If you are not entirely sure about any idea, ask for clarifications
- Demonstrate your understanding by expanding the initial post, be succinct here
- Please be courteous
