UV_Index discussion
After reading section 2.3b, especially the “Focus on an Environmental Issue 2.3 Wave Energy, Sun Burning, and UV Rays” from your textbook, complete the following activity.
The map provided on this link https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/stratosphere/uv_index/uv_current_map.shtml shows UV index forecast for 58 US cities during the solar noon hour. Look at this map to get general idea on the levels of UV index over different parts of the country.
Now go to the following website: https://www.epa.gov/enviro/uv-index-search to find UV indices for the date of your choice.
Put zip codes of three different places (city and state) each representing one EPA-defined UV index exposure category.
Now, in the discussion forum of this week, put name of the cities followed by “UV index” and day (example Detroit—Miami- ….UV Index September 16) in the subject line to initiate the discussion.
In the main body, put those UV indices and discuss briefly. Your discussion should consist of following three elements:
i) UV index forecast value for that City/State for the date you picked.
ii) How does UV index vary between the three places you selected and what explains this variation, i.e. why it varies the way it does?
iii) What kind of sun protection is needed for the people living or working in those exposure categories you picked?
Please don't repeat the same set of cities and dates your classmates have already discussed.
Initial discussion is due on Wednesday at 11:59 pm and feedback to at least one post is due by Saturday 11:59 pm.
Follow the rules and tips of discussion forum/feedback you practiced in earlier weeks.
