Useful tips on using BigBlueButton
Completion requirements
- Recorded video will not display immediately.
After you End the Meeting and Log out of your recordings, your recording will not display immediately. A 15 minute video took about 30 minutes to display on the Moodle page.
- At least initially, it is recommended that the each of the BBB lectures are created in multiple segments each around 10 minutes. Network/Internet service provider speeds might be slow due to the sharp increase in users/activity. (You can name each video segment as part1, part2 ...etc.)
- Please power down your computer at the end of the day. Prolonged use without a reboot can cause unexpected issues.
- Using a wired Ethernet connection compared to using Wi-Fi (wireless) would provide a more stable environment. This minimizes you randomly losing your recording (or your recording to suddenly drop) during the process of recording.
- Doing a test BBB session first might be beneficial to get oriented with BBB if you have not used it before.
- Recorded (asynchronous) BigBlueButton sessions might be a better option initially than scheduling a synchronous (live) session with students since you are depending on internet connection speeds both at your end and at the students' end - plus any login issues the students may have at the time of the live session.
- A BigBlueButton recording could be created for each week to keep the recording organized by the week.
